Hello! Finally gonna blog about my trip to batam last december. I went to batam the next morning after my club med trip. Missed 1 day of the 5157 camp and I heard my cell had so much bonding time on the first day :( So I woke up really early on the second day, got on the morning ferry to batam indonesia! Almost thought was at malaysia and brought ringgit, lucky my mum told me they used ruppiah in indonesia.

We went to this orphanage probably an hour's drive away from our hotel at this really ulu place with basically only the orphanage there. And by the way the hotel was really not so nice. The water that came out of the tap was brown and at the main hall the curtains fell off and at night water was cut off or something.

I didnt learn as much as I wanted to from this trip. But it was really different and pretty worth remembering. The guy in yellow holding the guitar is so talented!! They have a guitar at the orphanage and the strings are rusty and everything. The guitar he's holding is becky's. Obviously they don't have a guitar teacher so this guy taught himself guitar :') You know you always hear of these music or dance or study prodigies, who teach themselves how to do certain stuff but I never thought it was possible in like very ordinary people.. I guess. I guess when I first stepped into the orphanage I kind of looked down on them?? I didnt really expect that much of them. And really, seeing these kids singing along to the guitar singing worship songs. Really god's gift. Some of them are really talented, they can draw really well. There was this boy that drew a palace and he captioned it The castle of love and it's really heartbreaking to know and accept that this people really dont have parents. But they're all really happy, they probably treat the other kids as their siblings and have super strong bonds!
We played a lot of games with the children there. Actually there were more of teens like 15,16,17,18. Like really old compared to us all little kids. We played human foosball!
Musical chairs. Basically isaac just played random songs from his phone and every one danced around. Around this time it was like 3. And we were desperately trying to kill time cause it was raining that day and killed off all our outdoor activities planned out. So musical chairs progress was super slow at one chair taken out every round lol.

We did a really bad handmade christmas tree for them made out of scraps of paper glued to the wall. Because it was nearing christmas. We also did a play for them! It was about the birth of Jesus and nobody took it seriously cause 10 seconds into the play Shu ting, who played as mary, dropped the baby. Haha and nobody could sing the carols except Jeremy so we were only just giving the facial expression of yes I can sing very well.

Going for this 5157 trip really made me learn how fortunate I am. These kids, I would already call them fortunate, they have sufficient food, clothes, a nice building that doesnt break down, friends all around them. If I already consider them fortunate, what should I consider myself? Really made me rethink and reappreciate things around. Say please and thank you more often and dont take things for granted. There was this girl at the orphanage, she only had one eye. Her name was Ribka and one of her eyes was white and she could probably only see through one eye. I refused to look at her eyes the whole time cause I was really scared of it.... But ofcause we didnt alienate her we tried to play her ya. All these kids are happy and why am I complaining so much still? I have what they have and so so so much more.

Rather busy nowadays. School, tests, training. Getting blacker every other wednesday and friday. Tomorrow I have church! Valentine's special and everyone's expected to wear like dresses and stuff. Excited! Gonna take photos!
